GREENFLY INFESTATION THREATENS GARDENS
20 May 2010
Reports are coming in from across the UK of swarms of greenfly; there is even a Facebook page dedicated to the subject! Also known as aphids, greenfly are the enemy of gardeners everywhere, quickly wreaking havoc amongst plants as they feed on the sap, leave behind their toxic saliva and transmiting viruses which can kill the plants.
The symptoms of greenfly damage are many and varied and include decreased growth rates, mottled leaves, leaf curl, yellowing, wilting, low yields and ultimately death.
“Just as we say goodbye to the cold weather and our plants finally get the chance to flourish, it’s heartbreaking to think they now face the risk of destruction by a greenfly infestation,” said Bayer Garden product manager, Laura Varey. “But there is something we can do.
“Provado Ultimate Bug Killer is an ideal solution; it can be used indoors and outdoors and offers excellent all round protection for flowers and is perfect for grow your own enthusiasts since it can be used on a very broad spectrum of fruit and vegetables. It acts on contact with the aphid and, because it also has a systemic action, provides control for up to six weeks. It’s available in ready to use, concentrate and aerosol formulations.
“For Organic gardeners Organic Bug Free is the best option. A fast acting contact insecticide, it can be used on flowers and selected fruit and vegetables, right up to harvest.”
