- Bayer Garden introduces Baby Bio for Herbs -
With ‘grow your own’ continuing to be a dominant trend amongst shoppers it is no surprise that more and more people are attracted to growing herbs, particularly since they can be grown easily and attractively in containers on kitchen windowsills.
To help retailers tap into this opportunity Bayer Garden has extended the market leading brand of houseplant food Baby Bio for the 2010 season with the development of a food specifically for herbs, Baby Bio for Herbs.
“Growing herbs is relatively simple, can be fun to do with children and is wonderfully satisfying when you sit down to a meal containing, for example, home grown thyme or basil,” explained Alison Mulvaney, product manager at Bayer Garden.
“There are three keys to growing herbs successfully. The first is to use a soil-based compost and the second is to water in the morning rather than the evening, particularly if the environment is hot. Finally feed weekly between March and September with a feed that boosts leaf production rather than general growth.
“Baby Bio Herb Food has been developed to encourage exactly this type of growth and so is ideal for the experienced as well as novice grower.
“Throughout 2010 we will work with retailers on strategies to boost sales, including for example displaying Baby Bio Herb Food and a range of herbs alongside each other and in-store demonstrations on how to use herbs as remedies and in food. Retailers will also be able to utilize the successful Baby Bio POS Tower to show off the new product to its best advantage.”
Baby Bio has been Britain’s favourite houseplant food for over 50 years and is still the market leader today. Baby Garden continually innovates and extends the brand in response to consumers’ demands. In 2007 the company introduced Baby Bio Orchid Food, which tapped into the increasing demand for orchids. In autumn 2008 Baby Bio Citrus Food was introduced offering a specially developed formulation for the year round feeding of orange, lemon and all other varieties of citrus trees.
Both Baby Bio Citrus Food and Baby Bio Orchid Food have proved incredibly successful and creating a formulation specific to herbs was a natural extension.
