Slugs and snails
In the top ten of UK garden pests; Feeding damage appears as large irregular holes in leaves. Tell tale slime trails can be seen on the soil surface often being seen the following day.
Slugs and snails feed on virtually all plant material including seedlings, bedding plants, flowers, soft fruit and vegetable plants particularly when young with soft growth. Significant problem when weather is warm, damp and humid with major damage occuring during spring and autumn. Often not seen during the day, tending to feed at dusk. Present all year - less of a problem in hot dry and very cold weather. Slug and snail damage on ripe berries closest to the ground/straw are most at risk from feeding damage.
