Slugs and snails

These are always in the top garden pests in the UK.  Feeding damage appears as irregular holes in leaves and tell tale slime trails can be seen on the soil surface. They are more of a problem on seedlings and young tender new plants.  A significant problem where weather is warm, damp and humid which will be encouraged by regular watering .  Often not seen during the day, tending to feed in the evening.  Wherever possible water courgette plants during the day to reduce as much as possible damp, humid conditions in the evening.

Product Solution:  Slug and Snail Killer, Slug Bait, Natria Slug and Snail Control Scatter thinly around plants you want to protect. Read pack instructions before use.

Cultural measures: Keep areas around susceptible plants clean and well cultivated.  Smear pots and containers with Vaseline, attach copper ribbon to the top of pots and containers, apply crushed egg shells or fine horticultural grit / fine gravel to the top compost surface of pots to help protect vulnerable plants.
