Horsetail (Equisetum spp)
Field horsetail or marestail once established has a root system which extends 2 m deep and spreads by means of creeping rhizomes. It is often recommended that the green 'bottle brush' stems are crushed by walking on them or by beating them down with a cane prior to spraying with a weed killer to increase the amount of area that the horsetail can absorb the treatment. Spray with a systemic weed killer in the summer.
