Greenhouse Whitefly are the most widespread of all glasshouse grown tomato pests. Both the adults and larvae feed on sap from the leaves which become pale and curled due to this type of constant feeding damage. Both the foliage and fruit can be rendered sticky. Black mould, or Sooty mould grows on these sticky surfaces. The sticky substance is the sap of the plant which is known commonly as honeydew. This sooty mould can further disfigure the affected areas of the plant. Aubergines, peppers and chilli plants can also be affected to a lesser degree. A difficult pest to control completely but regular spraying with insecticide will help reduce numbers.
