Cuckoo Spit

White frothy spittle appears on shoots and along stems in early summer, May and June.  Living inside this froth is a small yellow insect called a Froghopper. Young growth can sometimes become distorted and wilted.

Rarely a serious pest. If only a few shoots affected then they can be wiped off with finger and thumb.  To clear more concentrated areas of Cuckoo Spil then hose the plant carefully with a strong jet of water to dislodge froth.
