Top 10 Jobs for March:

  1. If you plan to grow vegetables or bedding plants by seed, prepare the seed beds, and even plant the seeds depending on the variety.
  2. If any winter shrubs still require attention, cut them back now.
  3. Protect new fleshy growth from slugs.  Thinly scatter Slug and Snail Killer, Slug Bait or Natria Slug and Snail Control.
  4. If you would like some interesting summer bulbs, then now would be the time to plant them.
  5. If you grow Cornus (dogwood) for the winter colour then cut these back now, to ensure good winter stems for next year.
  6. Weeds will begin to emerge this month, so keep on top of them before they get out of hand.  Try using some simple soluble sachets such as Garden Super Strength Weedkiller.
  7. On warm days ventilate your greenhouse.
  8. Plant onions and early potatoes.
  9. Carry out any rose pruning which is still to be done.
  10. Attend to pots and containers by refreshing the compost, or re potting completely if required.
