Early Spring and your Lawn

If we are lucky enough to experience a mild spell, the lawn should begin its first growth of the year.  If this is the case give a first light cut of the season, cutting higher than normal.

Early Spring and your Lawn

  • If we are lucky enough to experience a mild spell, the lawn should begin its first growth of the year.  If this is the case give a first light cut of the season, cutting higher than normal.
  • If the soil has warmed up and is not too wet new turf can be laid, try to keep of newly laid turf for 6 weeks if possible, to allow good root establishment.
  • If you choose to grow a new lawn or part of lawn from seed, then prepare the ground by levelling and compacting.  Preparation early in the month will allow a settling period before the seed is sown at the end of the month or in April.
  • On existing lawns apply a high nitrogen spring/summer feed, this will help the lawn recover from winter conditions and encourage strong healthy growth.
  • Cut out new lawn edges if required.
  • If you have any residing worm casts, disperse them with a stiff broom.
